Yup, today is my birthday. Thanks to all of those that have emailed, im'd, called, commented, etc. :)
Not really doing anything special for it, in fact, I am at work right now. Hurray! ;)
This has been around for a long time, but in case you've never visited, I highly recommend it.
Nothing of too much interest going on this weekend. I'm hard core slacking at home and watching episodes of Babylon 5 season 3 and playing F-Zero. :)
Marathon over. I can't believe how bad I feel right now, hehe. This is a reminder of why I don't stay up like this nowadays....I'm too old for it now. ;)
School was interesting. I didn't miss anything but a bunch of introductions the first day. And, luckily, work was pretty uneventful today too, so my clouded mind wasn't forced to do anything too tough.
Time for sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.
Tuesday. I started my day by oversleeping and missing my first day of classes after staying up a bit later after work talking to my visiting brother. Doh!
Around lunch time we dropped by my work and picked up my deliveries from Fed-Ex(F-Zero GX and Simpsons season 3) and then stopped by Mile High Comics so Joe could pick up a few things(and of course I ended up buying something too, I'm so weak). We came back to my place and played the hell out of F-Zero GX. It is an astounding game in every way(speed, graphics, sounds, challenge, etc). Easily a must own title for the Gamecube.
Next on the list was a trip out to Red Rocks to see Radiohead perform. As I've mentioned previously, I had front row tickets for this. Our seats were amazing, we were quite literally just a few feet away from the band. The show itself was really really good. A lot of new stuff, but of course the best of the old as well. Two encores, including a brief sing-a-long with Thom. I wasn't hella-impressed by the lighting, but then, I just saw that fantastic display put on by Bjork just last week, so what can ya do. =)
Anyway, after the show then it was back to my place for some more F-Zero before bed. It was a wonderfully geeky day!
*****
I just finished up here at work for the night, I had a ton to do. Sadly, that leaves me with just a few hours now before I have to get up for school. Since I don't want to risk missing my 2nd day of classes, it looks like I'll be trying to stay up for a god forsaken amount of time. I'll be totally exhausted by work tomorrow, but at least it will be my friday.
I went down to Colorado Springs this weekend to hang a bit with Melissa. We saw the new Jackie Chan movie, The Medallion. While I don't think its possible to utterly dislike a Jackie Chan movie, this one definitely wasn't up to my typical standards. The action wasn't that great, the humor was sub-par, and the plot/dialogue was meh. There were a few really funny moments of course, and the typical outtakes reel at the end was great, but overall you can avoid this one, it was just "ok". 2 stars.
I am just absolutely freezing at the moment. No idea why.
Pretty uneventful week thus far, you know, other than having tons of guests and going to see a concert. :) I had intended to finally sign up for a gym this week to get my body toned up now that I have lost all the weight(184lbs now), but due to some potential living arrangement changes in the near future(more on that later)... I will put that on hold for now.
Tomorrow or Monday I think I will probably jaunt down to RRCC to buy my books for this semester, since school starts on Tuesday. It is a shame that my first day of classes is also a day that my brother will be back in town to see Radiohead with me....but aw well, what can ya do. At least its only for a few hours. :)
Yesterday I went to see Bjork at Red Rocks with my brother Joe and some of his friends. We got there a bit early to wait in line for gate open and managed to plop down in the neighborhood of the 10th row to watch the show. It was a rainy day, and my brother and his friends didn't have much in the way of rain gear, so garbage bags were the style of the day. ;)
I have no idea who the opening artist was, but needless to say I don't feel the need to find out. However, even with the not so wonderful start, Bjork was absolutely fantastic. Her voice, her movements and odd little dances, all absolutely adorable. She was backed by a string octet from the Iceland Symphony as well as a woman who made use of a harp called Zeena? I believe(she was amazing) and two mixer guys known as Matmos. She asked if it was alright if she introduced them to us at one point since she "[had] the microphone and stuff." So cute. :)
Her entire performance was breathtaking and beautiful. The live version of "I've seen it all" brought tears to my eyes. There were quite a few changes to the organization, structure/mix of a few of the songs, I'm guessing due to those Matmos guys, and they were all fantastic. She had some really interesting videos playing during a few of the songs as well as some absolutely fantastic pyrotechnics during some songs(Spouts of flame, Fireworks).
Prior to finding out about this concert a few months back, I never thought I'd have the chance to see Bjork in concert, as she rarely comes to the States(Prior to this tour, not since '95 I believe on any kind of tour), and even more rarely when she comes does she come anywhere near me. All I can say is I feel blessed that she did come and that I got to see her. This show definitely topped the list as my favorite concert ever.
If you live anywhere near her upcoming dates in New York, Montreal or Boston, I highly recommend that you beg, borrow, or steal your way into the show. I think for the NY shows you'll also have the added benefit of seeing Sigur Ros open. :)

She played a couple new songs by the way, although one of the new ones sounded a bit familiar to me and I thought I just didn't fully recognize it. In any case, they were wonderful! During Mouth Cradle she actually dropped the mic and worked an editing/sampling board for a bit. Here is a set list which I borrowed and then put a couple of comments on. ;)

At long last, my Travel log and pictures from Turkey are fully up! Please let me know if you encounter any broken links or the like. Everything should be working now. Enjoy!
Also, here is a picture of that leaf painting that I bought. Click the pic for a larger version:
I'll let this sit up top as the most recent update for a few days and then I'll resume normal updates. =)
First off, the second and final part of my Turkey travel logs and pics will be up shortly, probably tomorrow late late night-ish. A few days after I get that up, my updates will return to their usual frequency.
Yesterday evening I went to the Dave Gahan(DM lead singer) concert at the Fillmore. It was fan-fucking-tastic. He did all of his songs off the new album and a large selection of popular DM hits. As always, his showmanship bordered on the lounge singer-esque and was quite entertaining. The opening band was A Sacred Cow I believe. I liked most of what they played, especially the opening song which was very reminiscent of New Order, but in general I don't think I really thought much of the lead singer's voice. Or perhaps just the way he was using it.
On Thursday it was Tori Amos at Red Rocks. She was great, as usual. Favorite part of the show for me was probably a redone version of "Precious Things". I was initially sitting in like the 24th row, assigned seating, but Holly was sitting way closer in general admission and called me and let me know about an open spot a couple rows up from her after the opening act. So I ended up sitting around 10th row for Tori, pretty cool. Opener for her was Ben Folds Five. I didn't know anything about this...band...before the show, so was a bit surprised to find it consisted of one guy playing on the piano. He was pretty good for the most part.
On a side note, I also saw SWAT this weekend at the theatre with Chuck. We both agreed that it was alright. Worth seeing, but nothing to write home about. I personally would have loved more screen time for Michelle Rodriguez and LL Cool J, as they can both be incredibly amusing, aw well. 2.5 stars.
I've managed to finish a little over half of it now, but the rest should go pretty quick. I am going to link the work in progress, which should be more than enough to keep you busy for quite some time!
Turkey Travel Log & Pics - Currently it documents my trip from July 1st until July 12th. More soon!
Mind you, a few of the thumbnails don't work yet, but don't worry, the big picture will still be there if you click on it.
Also, appologies to anyone on dial-up, as a page full of thumbnails will probably hurt a bit, but the text should load right off the bat for you at least, giving you something to read while you wait. ;)
Enjoy!
Oh! And be sure to let me know if you encounter any problems, broken links or the like. Thanks!
